The Art of Defiance: The Political, Spiritual, and Human Truth of José Antonio Pantoja Hernández

When you stand before a painting by José Antonio Pantoja Hernández, you aren’t simply encountering a piece of art, you are witnessing the unfiltered truth of a man who survived exile, defied dictatorship, and turned trauma into an unstoppable creative force.

His paintings do not whisper.

They roar.

And as the one representing his artwork, I am deeply proud to share his voice with the world.

UPROOTED :The First Wound

His first story begins with a familiar ache: the abrupt moment of leaving family behind because a corrupt political system forces you to run.

“Uprooted” captures the raw rupture of exile,  the torn roots, the emotional violence, the price of survival

MONSTER’S BUSINESS — Between Two Dangers

Image referenced: “Monster’s Business”

José describes living “between two monsters.”

The danger he escaped and the uncertainty of the new land he entered. Even now, as a citizen, safety is a fragile concept, but this new monster at least allows him to breathe. This piece tells the story with bold symbolism and undeniable honesty.

Art as Protest ... Not Decoration

He says it clearly:

“I paint to protest, not to decorate walls.”

José refuses to dilute, soften, or appease. His art is created to stake a claim for truth , not comfort. That is what makes his voice so essential, and why representing his work is an honor.

For the Poor, the Forgotten, the Shadowed

Image referenced: works inspired by poverty and “the dark side of the world”

His inspiration comes from those who live on the margins.

His brush gives visibility to the invisible and dignity to those the world ignores.

A Mission Fueled by Freedom for Cuba

As the founder of a political art movement, José holds one mission as sacred:

To fight for the freedom of Cuba, until the last breath, through every stroke of paint.

Representing an artist with this level of conviction is a privilege and a responsibility I carry with pride.

Spirituality: The Portal Into His World

His spirituality is not an accessory, it is the channel that allows him to create entire worlds. His paintings vibrate with symbolism, mysticism, and that ancient internal knowing that guides true visionaries

The Unstoppable Dreamer

He dreams for his people.

He dreams for their future.

He dreams because to stop dreaming would be to surrender.

Identity: The Artist’s Signature

Identity is what makes an artist unforgettable. And José’s identity is unshakable, forged by culture, shaped by struggle, and fueled by hope.

Art as Healing — and as Exposing the Absurdity of Power

Creating has become his healing path, a way to release what politics once tried to silence. His work also exposes, in his own words, “the stupidness of politicians.” And he does so unapologetically.

A Message to America: Do Not Forget Your Freedom

His final message is one every collector, viewer, and citizen should hear:

Do not take your freedom for granted.

Many have died for less.

And many still live without it.

A Message to America: Do Not Forget Your Freedom

His art is a reminder of that precious truth.
