The Mind That Secretly Holds On And the Practice That Sets You Free

The mind is a quiet keeper of wounds.
It files away every betrayal, every disappointment, every moment someone let you down, not loudly, but in the shadows.
And then, without your permission, it begins to see those same shadows in everyone else.
This is the silent work of projection.
When we haven't fully processed the pain of being hurt or betrayed, we don't just carry it, we cast it. We walk into new relationships already scanning for the threat. We interpret kindness with suspicion. We see the face of the person who wronged us in people who have done nothing wrong at all.
The mind isn't doing this to punish you. It's trying to protect you.
But here's the truth that sets you free: what you see in others is often a map of what lives unhealed within you.
The moment you stop and ask, "Is this really about them? Or is this an old wound speaking?" is the moment your transformation begins.
Because healing doesn't mean forgetting what happened. It means refusing to let one person, one betrayal, one chapter, silently write the rest of your story.
The Silent Witness Practice An NLP Process for Releasing Stored Hurt & Reclaiming Your Perception.
Find a quiet space. Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and take three slow, deep breaths. With each exhale, let your body soften.
You are not here to fight anything. You are here simply to witness.
Step 1 Allow, Don't Resist
Let the memory or feeling rise naturally. Don't chase it. Don't push it away. Simply observe it, as if watching a cloud move across the sky.
Say inwardly: "I am safe enough now to let this be seen."
The mind holds onto what it believes we are not yet ready to face. Your willingness to sit with it without fleeing, is already an act of profound courage.
Step 2 Separate the Person from the Lesson
Every experience, no matter how painful, carries encoded information that belongs to you not to the person who caused it.
Ask yourself gently:
"What did this teach me about my own strength?" "What did this reveal about what I truly value?" "What part of me was forged even through this pain?"
Let the answers arise without forcing them. You are not excusing what happened. You are reclaiming what grew from it.
Step 3 Reframe the Imprint
Notice where you feel this experience living in your body. A tightness in the chest. A heaviness in the shoulders. A constriction in the throat.
Place your hand there gently and say:
"This feeling was never meant to be my identity. It was a moment. And I am so much larger than this moment."
Breathe into that space. With each inhale, draw in clarity. With each exhale, release the grip that one person one season has held over the whole of your life.
Step 4 Expand Beyond the One
This is where the deepest shift happens.
Recognize that the person who hurt or betrayed you was one voice, one moment, one lens yet you have been unconsciously allowing that single experience to color how you see the world and everyone who enters it.
Visualize yourself gently calling back every projection every wall, every suspicion, every shadow you placed onto others because of what they did.
Say inwardly:
"You shaped me, but you do not define me. I reclaim my perception. I return to others what was never theirs to carry. And I step forward free."
Sit in that silence for a moment. Let it settle.
Step 5 Anchor the New State
When you feel even the smallest sense of spaciousness, relief, or lightness press two fingers gently together and breathe it in fully.
This becomes your anchor. A physical reminder you can return to whenever old patterns surface a signal to your nervous system that you have already begun to move beyond.
Close the Practice
Take three final deep breaths.
Slowly bring your awareness back to the room. Place both hands over your heart and say:
"I am not what was done to me. I am not the story they left behind. I am what I choose right now to become."
Open your eyes when you are ready.
This practice is most powerful when done consistently. Even five minutes of silent, non-resistant witnessing begins to rewire old neural pathways, gently loosening the hold the past has on your present, and returning you to the fullness of who you truly are.
You were never meant to carry one person's shadow into every room you enter.
You were meant to walk in your own light.
This work is my calling and my deepest joy. Everything I do is rooted in one unwavering belief, that every human being deserves to live free from the weight of their past, Explore the potential in all things happening FOR you, & open to the love that is their birthright. It is my greatest honor to walk alongside you on that journey. Because when one heart heals, it ripples outward, touching lives, softening walls, and quietly making the world a little more loving than it was before. That is the world I am committed to helping create, one soul at a time.
