An Intuitive Language of Color

An Interview with Artist Liz Alpert

Art, at its most honest, is not made to be explained, it is made to be felt. In this intimate conversation, I sat down with artist Liz Alpert to explore where her work truly comes from, how it moves through her body and spirit, and why her art carries such a palpable sense of uplift and truth. What emerged was not simply an interview, but a window into an intuitive, deeply spiritual creative process.

Listening to What Speaks First:

When I asked Liz what guides her first when she creates, the heart, memory, intuition, or something even deeper her answer was immediate and clear.

“I would have to say intuition is what guides me, particularly with my use of color.”

Color, for Liz, is not decorative. It is instinctual. It arrives before words, before logic, a language that bypasses explanation and goes straight to feeling.

Art as Alchemy:

There are emotions we struggle to speak aloud, even to those closest to us. For Liz, art becomes the sacred container for those unspoken truths.

“Through my art I am transmuting pain and suffering and possibly any negative feelings, which get transformed into colorful, uplifting works.”

This is not art as catharsis alone, it is art as alchemy. Pain does not stay pain; it is transformed into joy, light, and elevation.

Creating Beyond Expectation:

One of the most striking aspects of Liz’s process is her freedom from external expectation.

“I almost never consider what others expect from my work when creating art. It’s a completely personal experience.”

Even when working on commission, she remains faithful to her essence, honoring the client’s vision while still allowing her own color language and intuitive style to lead.

Where Inspiration Lives in the Body:

When inspiration strikes, it does not remain abstract for Liz, it is embodied.

“I would say the heart is the first place, along with the mind and gut instincts.”

Creation, for her, is a full-body knowing. The work emerges when heart, mind, and instinct align.

Stillness and Solitude:

Authenticity requires space. Liz shared that solitude is essential to her creative life.

“I do spend a lot of alone time, and this offers plenty of time for reflection. Everything comes from inside.”

This inward listening is where her truest voice is found, not forced, not rushed, but revealed.

The Transformative State of Creation:

Perhaps the most profound moment in our conversation came when Liz described what happens while she is immersed in the creative process.

“I am not aware of my physical body. I am in a deep place inside, which I imagine is a connection to a higher source. It’s basically channeling, so I would call it spiritual.”

Emotionally, the act of creating dissolves pain, replacing it with relief, and ultimately, joy. Art becomes prayer. Movement. Communion.

The Self That Appears on the Canvas:

When asked which parts of herself appear most often in her work — the dreamer, the storyteller, the seeker, Liz paused, then answered with honesty.

“All are part of me, so all are included in my art. If I had to choose one, observer.”

Her work watches. Witnesses. Reflects, without judgment.

When the Work Resists:

Creative blocks, she believes, are not failures.

“If something is blocked, it may be that the timing isn’t right.”

There is wisdom in waiting. Trust in the unfolding.

Healing and Revelation as One:

Some artists distinguish between art that heals them and art that reveals them. Liz does not.

“I wouldn’t be able to separate the two. My art is coming through to the purest of my abilities to convey a message that doesn’t matter what the world thinks.”

Healing and revelation are one act, inseparable, honest, whole.

What She Hopes You Feel:

At the heart of Liz’s work is a simple, powerful intention.

“I hope people are uplifted, elevated, feel joy, see truth, and get more peace.”

And that, perhaps, is exactly what her art does, quietly, intuitively, and unmistakably.

This conversation reminded me that true art does not ask for permission, it listens inward, then speaks boldly through color, presence, and spirit.
