Before your mind can lead, your body must be heard.
We spend so much of our lives living from the neck up, thinking, analyzing, worrying, planning, that we forget the extraordinary miracle that is happening below it. Every single second of every single day, your body is working for you. Faithfully. Silently. Without complaint.
This practice is my invitation to stop. To close your eyes. To travel inward. And to meet, perhaps for the very first time, the intelligence that has carried you through every hard day, every triumph, every moment of doubt, and every moment of grace.
This is The Body Gratitude Scan™ a clinical NLP and somatic awareness practice I developed as part of The Method™. It combines neuro linguistic programming with embodied gratitude to reprogram how your nervous system relates to your own capacity. In simple terms: when you learn to trust your body, you learn to trust yourself. And when you trust yourself, there is nothing you cannot do.
Let us begin.
Prepare Your Sacred Space
This practice works best when you give it the reverence it deserves. You are about to speak to your body, and your body has been waiting a long time to be heard.
Sit upright in a chair or cross-legged on the floor. Spine tall. Shoulders soft. Hands resting open on your thighs with your palms facing up, ready to receive.
Put your phone on silent. Close the door if you can. Even fifteen minutes of complete presence is more powerful than an hour of half-attention.
Before you close your eyes, say these three words aloud, or silently if you prefer:
"I am here. I am ready. I am grateful."
Say them and mean them.
Then gently close your eyes.
The Opening Breath
Begin with three deep breaths.
Inhale slowly through your nose for four counts. Hold at the top for two. Exhale through your mouth for six counts, long, slow, and complete.
With every exhale, feel your body soften. Feel your jaw release. Feel your shoulders drop away from your ears.
You are not here to perform. You are here to feel. You are here to remember.
On your third exhale, let go of the day. Let go of your to-do list. Let go of who you need to be for everyone else. For the next few minutes, you belong entirely to yourself.
The Scan, Traveling Upward With Gratitude
Move slowly through each part of your body. There is no rush. Spend as long as you need in each place. Breathe into it. Thank it. Mean it.
Your Feet
Bring your full awareness down to the soles of your feet. Feel them against the floor. Feel the weight of your entire body resting in them.
Ask yourself, do my feet support me? Do they carry me forward each day, across floors, up stairs, through life? Have they ever once refused to move me toward my dreams?
Feel the ground beneath them. Feel how solid they are. How capable. How faithful. And now, from the deepest place inside you
Thank you, feet. I see you.
Your Ankles
Gently rotate your awareness up to your ankles. These small, intricate joints flex thousands of times a day, navigating uneven ground, climbing curbs, catching you when you stumble.
Do your ankles flex and support you? Do they make tiny adjustments you never even notice keeping you balanced, keeping you upright, keeping you safe? How many times have they caught a fall you never even felt coming?
Breathe into your ankles. Appreciate their quiet, constant work.
Thank you, ankles. I am grateful.
Your Calves & Shins
Move your attention up through your lower legs. The calves that propel you forward. The shins that absorb impact so the rest of your body does not have to.
Feel how strong they are. Feel the muscle fiber, the bone, the living tissue working in perfect orchestration every time you take a step. You have walked hundreds of thousands of miles on these legs. They have never once said no.
Thank you, legs. You have carried me far.
Your Knees
Arrive at your knees, the magnificent hinges that make all movement possible. They bend for you every single time you sit, stand, kneel, climb, and run.
Do your knees carry you around? Think about how many thousands of times today alone they have opened and closed, extended and contracted, silently doing their work so you could do yours.
Place your hands on your knees if you wish. Feel their warmth. Feel them under your palms real and alive and working for you.
Thank you, knees. You make every step possible.
Your Thighs & Hips
Rise into your thighs, the largest muscles in your body. The seat of your power. The engine of your movement.
And your hips, the sacred center. The place where your body pivots, turns, dances, and runs. Where your strength originates. Where, in many traditions, your creative life force lives.
Feel how much power lives here. Feel it radiating outward. This is not just muscle, this is your foundation of physical authority.
Thank you, hips. You are my center of power.
Your Abdomen & Core
Breathe deeply into your belly. Feel it expand on the inhale, and release fully on the exhale. This is where your breath lives. Where your digestion works tirelessly around the clock. Where your core strength protects your spine and every vital organ within it.
This is also where your gut instinct speaks. That feeling you sometimes call a hunch, a knowing, it lives here. Your body has been trying to communicate with you through this center your entire life.
Are you listening now?
Thank you, core. I will listen to you more.
Your Heart & Chest
Rise into your chest. Place one hand over your heart if it feels right. Feel it beating, right now, in this very moment, without any instruction from you.
Your heart has beaten over two billion times since you were born. It has never taken a day off. Not once. It has beaten through your hardest days, your darkest nights, your greatest joys and your deepest grief, and it is still here. Still beating. Still faithful to you.
Let yourself feel what it means to be loved by your own heart.
Thank you, heart. I honor you.
Your Shoulders, Arms & Hands
Spread your awareness across your shoulders, down through your arms, all the way into your fingertips. These are the instruments through which you create, build, hold, and heal.
Your hands have written, cooked, comforted, built, and created. They have held people you love. They have done work that mattered. Every scar on them is a story. Every callus is proof of a life fully lived.
Open your hands wide. Then slowly close them. Feel how extraordinary that simple movement truly is.
Thank you, hands. You are my instruments of creation.
Your Spine & Neck
Feel the full length of your spine, from the base of your pelvis all the way up through your neck. This is your central pillar. The highway through which every signal in your body travels. The structure that allows you to stand upright, to face the world, to hold your head high.
Your spine is your posture and your presence. When it is aligned, you communicate confidence before you say a single word.
Feel it now, tall, aligned, powerful.
Thank you, spine. You keep me standing.
Your Face, Eyes & Mind
Arrive at the crown. Soften your jaw, let it drop slightly. Soften the skin between your eyebrows. Soften behind your eyes.
This is where you meet the world. Your eyes have seen beauty that took your breath away. Your ears have heard music, laughter, and truth. Your voice has spoken words that changed someone's life, even if you never knew it.
And your brain, this extraordinary living universe inside your skull, it has kept you alive, kept you learning, kept you growing every single day of your life.
You are not broken. You are not behind. You are a miracle, and you have always been enough.
Thank you, mind. Now let us talk about what comes next.
The NLP Mind Practice, What You Release & What You Choose
Your body has spoken. Now your mind gets to choose. This is where NLP does its deepest work, at the intersection of awareness and decision.
What you release: In your mind's eye, see every limiting belief, every "I can't," every fear that has lived in your body without your permission. See them clearly, and then watch them dissolve on your next exhale. You do not need to carry what has never served you. Release it now. You have permission.
What you install: On your next inhale, breathe in a single truth you choose to make real: "I am capable. I am ready. I can do this." Let it travel down through your crown, through your chest, through your core, all the way to the feet that support you. Let it live in every cell of this magnificent body.
The future self visualization: See yourself six months from now, having done the thing. Standing in the life you are building. Feel how it feels in your body to have done it. Notice your posture. Notice your breathing. Notice the look on your face. That person is not a fantasy. That person is you, arriving.
The Closing
Take three final deep breaths.
With each one, feel your body and your mind speaking the same language, yes. I can. I will. I am.
When you are ready, slowly open your eyes. But carry this feeling with you. Your body just told you everything you need to know.
You have always had everything you need to do this.
Now go do it.
Your Daily Affirmations, Speak These Out Loud
"I am supported from the ground up, by my body, by my mind, by the life I am choosing to build."
"I release every story that told me I could not. My body has carried me this far. My mind will take me the rest of the way."
"I am grateful for this body, this mind, this moment. I can do this. I was always going to do this."
"Every cell in my body is working for me. Every breath is proof that I belong here. I am ready."
